Spaceman returns to the Panners’ mound after a 40 year absence
The Bill “Spaceman” Lee playing in the Fairbanks Midnight Sun game was more than just a stunt.
The former Red Sox and Alaska Panners’ pitcher actually lasted more than an inning and the guy is 62. He pitched 6-plus innings, leaving in the 7th with a 5-4 lead.
“I asked him if he could pitch on Thursday,” Panners manager Tim Gloyd told the Fairbanks News-Miner newspaper. “… He had great tempo. He’s a real major league-type player.”
To prove just how old Lee really is, consider these people were also born in 1946: Reggie Jackson, Sly Stallone, Rollie Fingers, George W. Bush, Cher and Bubba Clinton.
